THE INSPIRATION
"Safe" is one of my most recent poems. It reflects the feeling of comfort and protection that I experience now that I am safely single.
In my marriage, I enjoyed learning submission; allowing my husband to lead our family and trusting that he would lead with love. I can't even express how unsafe I felt as a woman when I looked up to discover that he had abandoned me with no intention of returning.
Immediately I asked myself simple questions, "Where do I go?" A 10 year plan that I did not create, only supported, is no longer the direction. So, what do I do? Whatever I want. Now I can do whatever it is that I want. Sounds simple, right? Not really. I'm still learning how to live as a single woman, lead myself, and enjoy it. I think I'm doing quite well.
And now the person leading me, loves me. And I feel safe. Safer than I have ever felt.

Safe Like The Baby Bird In The Nest High Above
Safe Like The Nurtured Child Wrapped In Its Mother's Love
Safe Like The Blue In The Daylight Sky
Safe Like The Moon Sure To Show When Night Arrives
I Want To Feel Safe
Safe Like The Words The Prophets Spoke
Safe Like Hannah When From Her Prayer She Rose
Safe Like Baby Jesus In The Manger
Safe Like Moses Shielded From God's Anger
I Want To Feel Safe
So Safe I Feel Free
Freedom Like No One Has Ever Tasted
A Freedom So Sure It Could Never Be Wasted
