I still have some of my Long Live Paper subscriptions of last year and in a 2017 issue of Health Magazine I found a helpful article attacking the ultimate question of tea sippers in the western world: Are Weight Loss Teas Worth the Try? The article in Heath Magazine September 2017 page 153 answers this important question with a simple response.
In this article, I reveal why you should avoid weight loss teas and 4 teas that you can try instead to naturally assist you in losing weight. Be sure to also subscribe to be automatically entered to win FREE tea/books/stuff during Tea End Blog Give-Aways. Already subscribed? Tell a friend!
Water Loss Teas?
Weight loss teas are all the craze in the western world, so much so, that some individuals seek out tea for this very reason. At times, my friends will ask me, "What tea can help me burn fat?" or "What tea can help me lose weight?" I never refer them to weight loss teas probably much to their confusion, because weight loss teas are actually really bad for you.
You see, some weight loss teas combine caffeine with a diuretic causing you to shed water weight but not actual fat. They may also contain herbs like senna, which is a natural laxative. Consumption of senna can cause undesirable side effects such as cramps or diarrhea.
I think it's safe to say most people are trying to lose fat not water when they think of losing weight and weight loss teas do not attack fat.
Tea, in general, is a great beverage to add to your regimen if you are trying to loose weight. With a clean diet and exercise, tea can help you curb your appetite. The catechins in green tea, for example, help to inhibit the movement of glucose into fat cells, which slows the rise of blood sugar and prevents high insulin and subsequent fat storage. And when your blood sugar is more stable so is your hunger!
The article in Health Magazine provides 4 teas that you should add to your diet if you are trying to lose weight. See the teas below and the reasons why they're good for you and your waistline:
Black Tea | Heart healthy and an energy booster so that you can tackled those work-outs without breaking a sweat.
Green Tea | Packed with good-for-you antioxidants that promote continual health.
White Tea | (my favorite!) Catechins assist in curbing your appetite so that those honey-buns don't go to your lips let alone your hips.
Kombucha | Promotes a healthy digestive system and gut which plays a large role in weight loss.
You may be tempted to try a weight loss tea, but remember, weight loss teas don't actually help you lose weight but rather you'll be losing precious water that your body can use to keep itself hydrated and energized. Try sipping the teas suggested above for a healthier more fulfilling weight loss experience.
