Tie Guan Yin | Origins Tea

22 Apr 2017

Don’t you just love it when the first sip of a great tea is also the first step in a wonderful adventure? Tie Guan Yin by Origins Tea starts off with strong nutty flavors, leads along with floral notes and concludes with a fruity finale!

THE HUE

Tie Guan Yin is a deep yellow hue that is calming and muted; not as vibrant as some of the spring colors but as warm as summer. This comes as no surprise as this particular tea was hand-picked in Summer 2016!

THE SCENT

As soon as I poured hot water over Tie Guan Yin by Origins Tea a fruity floral aroma burst forth. I leaned in closer to get a deep whiff and was greeted by not fruit nor flower but a nutty aroma.

THE SIP

Hario Chacha Kyusu Maru Tea Pot and Infuser

Without 2 teaspoons of honey, Tie Guan Yin by Origins Tea is (roasted) nutty, floral and fruity. All of the notes make up a very unique, delicate and intricate tea taste. I also enjoyed the creamy mouth feel that each sip lent.

With 2 teaspoons of honey, Tie Guan Yin by Origins Tea took on a totally different dynamic. The nutty aromas become undetectable and the creaminess becomes an astringent taste and tacky feel on the tongue. With honey, Tie Guan Yin is a perfectly blended concoction of flowers and fruit.

THE EFFECT

I believe that I will sip Tie Guan Yin without honey from here on out; I absolutely love the adventure that the tea takes me on with each sip!
