Tea can be very beneficial to your well-being and each tea type presents its on gift in health. White tea provides wonderful benefits due to its low caffeine and high theanine content. In this May edition of Tea Knowledge – White Tea, you will learn a couple of my personal health benefits of white tea.
Theanine is an amino acid unique to Camellia Sinensis, the tea plant. It is a beneficial compound that is preserved when the tea leaf undergoes the least amount of processing as possible. While black tea leaves undergo the greatest levels of processing, white tea is usually simply steamed and dried after picking.
How is theanine good for your health? This beautiful amino acid can have a amazing impact on your mood. It alters the levels of various neurostrasmitters, producing a calming effect which also counters the stimulating action of caffeine in tea (this is why I sometimes call tea, liquid contradiction).
If I want to zen-out, all I have to do is make myself a fresh cup of imperial white or silver needle and I am able to calmly focus in on the tasks of the day.
Tea in general has anti-inflammatory capabilities but the added advantage of low caffeine levels and high theanine in white tea make it a perfect remedy for menstrual cramps or bloating.
Before I go for the drugs I usually try to see if a cup of white tea will sooth me enough when it’s that time of the month and usually it does the trick. I find it to be most effective when I am resting and not doing much moving about or when I don’t have too many stressors.
