A Classic: Thé au Lait

A Classic: Thé au Lait

Thé au lait is a French expression that basically means ‘tea with milk’. The “tea” usually implies an Assam black tea and excludes all other teas that are rarely sipped with milk. I thought that I would write a post about thé au lait to pay homage to this classic beverage during National Hot Tea Month.

In this article, I share 3 essentials for a good tasting thé au lait and 1 spin on the Recipe that may be your cup of tea. Do not forget to SUBSCRIBE to Tea End Blog to be automatically entered in Tea End Blog Give-Aways. Already subscribed? Tell a friend!

Thé au Lait: The Essentials

Thé au lait is very simple and although there are only 3 ingredients, all of them are essential in creating thé au lait. You will need…

A Classic: Thé au Lait

Black Tea | When preparing a good thé au lait, I like to begin with a quality loose leaf Assam. A good Korean red tea will do the trick also, in fact, on 08 Jun 2017 I reviewed an extremely tasty red tea called, Korean Boseong Red Tea by Teas Unique. I know that it would taste exquisite as thé au lait! You can always save time and use tea bags, just make sure the tea bags contain quality and flavorful tea.

Milk | Now this is where you can get a little creative. I, personally, do not even drink cow’s milk and haven’t bought it for a long time now; it’s never in my fridge. Therefore, when I’m in the mood for thé au lait, I grab the almond milk. You can really use any type of milk but I prefer almond milk as it keeps a particular heavy-ness that is needed for a good thé au lait and the nutty notes lend to the Assam or black tea taste.

Honey | Thé au lait has creamy and malty notes. When you add honey it only sweetens the over-all experience. I prefer to add honey to my thé au lait instead of sugar because honey amplifies the creaminess and doesn’t overly sweeten the sip.

If you are looking for an easy-to-prepare black tea and want to add a little flavor to your thé au lait, why not try Paris Tea by Harney & Sons. It is such a great tea and at times I add milk to it in search for a creamy flavorful sipping experience. It really is one of the best blends by Harney & Sons!
